Are you still struggling to get your feet in the water at Linfield this school year? Do you want to try something new with great energy? Try joining the Spanish club or attending any LULA meeting!
The Spanish Club is a club where anyone who might be interested in Hispanic - Latino studies or majoring in Spanish is able to join. Based on previous attendees, it is a free open club that insists on culture night of any spanish or latino night that helps the students learn how to cook dishes from that culture and so much more events.

Sofia Parades ‘27, President of the Spanish Club
Sofia Parades, ‘27, is the president of the Spanish club who is eager for people to come and attend events to grow the group. She states, “ This club is not only for students taking a Spanish class or students who already speak Spanish at home. The Spanish club is a place to not only learn about the language but also the culture that surrounds it.”

Conner Tompkins- Delacerda ‘27, Vice President of the Spanish Club
Conner Tompkins- Delacerda ‘27, is the vice president of the Spanish club. He who isn't from a Hispanic or Latino descent is also hoping for those who don't share a similar background to be willing to come to a meeting and learn about the culture. When asking about what the Spanish club is to him he says “ The Spanish club is a place for us to fail and learn. A place for everyone to connect. Doesn't matter if they don't know Spanish or if they do. This club is to make memories through this language.” He also states “ I've been learning the language and I come from a background with zero involvement of spanish. I wanted others that also come from the same background to take a chance on it and learn the language.”
Both Sofia and Conner have goals for this club. Most students mostly know about LULA on campus which is a great multicultural club anyone can go to but Sofia and Conner want to expand their outreach for the Spanish Club. I asked both about what goals they wanted to complete while being presidents of the Spanish club and here's what they had to say…
“ My goal is to expand as a club. I aim to join both spanish- speakers and non-spanish speakers and connect through our love of the language and the fun experiences that come from it.” Sofia Parades
“ I want a lot of people in each meeting. I want everyone to experience everything we have to offer in the Spanish Club.” Conner Tompkins- Delacerda.
If you are interested in joining this great club to meet great and welcoming people with a bonus of trying amazing food and learning a new language the Spanish club is hosted bi-weekly! They are usually held on Thursdays with the exception of cooking nights.

This year the Spanish club has already had their first event that was held in the Pioneer reading room with a movie night. But don't feel left out since they are hosting another movie night on October 24th in the pioneer reading room at 7pm.
As for LULA, they have weekly meetings every Wednesday at 6:30pm in the multicultural room by the mailroom. They will also be hosting Celebracion, a latin heritage event held annually on October 19th from 5pm- 8pm.
LULA’s coordinators are Jennifer Rosiles ‘26 and Marycelia Hernandez ‘25 both have been running LULA for two years in a row and have been busy with planning for Celebracion, an annual event hosted by LULA. LULA is mostly centered around the Latino student population on campus, but don't be afraid to stop by and hang out. Just like the Spanish club, LULA accepts everyone who is interested in being around Latino’s and their culture.
